Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and the fourth poorest region in the world. Starvation, malnutrition, infant mortality and despair are rampant, with 80% of people living in extreme poverty, along with a staggering 70% of adults unemployed. Nine million people live in Haiti. It is the 3rd hungriest country after Somalia and Afganistan. One out of 16 women die during childbirth because they are so weak from malnutrition while 3 out of 4 children are malnutritioned. Sadly, 1 of 7 children will not see their 5th birthday and 11 children a day are born with the HIV virus. Most noteably and unfortunately Haiti is the fourth most corrupt country after Somalia, Myanmar and Iraq.
